Chief Librarian

Mr. R. T. Obashe a Deputy Director was appointed Chief Librarian in September 2014.
He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Library and information Science from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and the University of Ibadan respectively.
He is a certified Librarian, a member of the Special Library Association (SLA) of America and a member of the Nigeria Library Association

A BRIEF ON THE P. T. I LIBRARY

The Petroleum Training Institute  houses an outstanding library with approximately 54,497 volume of books and has a total of 18 Staff, 13 Professionals, 5 Non- Professional Staff and 7 Supporting Staff.

All PTI library users must be duly registered and can only be admitted after being issued with a library registration ticket. This ticket must always be shown on demand to any library staff or official. Entry may be prohibited to anyone that fails to provide this ticket.

Registration is valid for only four semester for students while registration for staff is valid till termination of employment.

The library opening times are as follows;

  • Monday – Friday        8:30am – 9:00pm
  • Saturday                     9:00am  – 5:00pm
  • Sunday                       12:00pm – 6:00pm

The Library does not open on public holidays.

ADMISSION TO THE P.T.I LIBRARY

The following can access the library

  1. Members of the institute council.
  2. All trainees of the institute.
  3. All academic and non-academic (Junior and Senior Staff).
  4. Any other person whose application has been approved by the Chief Librarian.
  5. The Library may admit for reference only i.e. without privilege of borrowing information resources to the following;
  • Ex-trainees of the institute
  • Researchers from other higher institute of learning.
  • Staff dependants
  • Persons granted permission in special circumstance or requiring quick reference service.

SERVICES RENDERED BY THE LIBRARY TO THE PUBLIC

The PTI Library offers the following services to the public;

  1. Reader Services – The Reader Service is made of Circulation Unit and the Reserve Unit.
The Circulation Unit handles registration of users, Charging and Discharging of books, Users queries, Shelves Maintenance e.t.c.

The Reserve Unit consists of materials that are not in circulation like the normal books because of their importance, high demand and quantity. Patrons may have to sign for these materials to use them in the Library.

Media Services – This Section offers Audio- Visual Services on non- book materials that can be viewed or listened to such as graphic materials, three dimension materials, cam- coder, still projectors e.t.c.
MEDIA SERVICES
Reference Service – The materials in this section includes encyclopedias, bibliography, maps, handbooks e.t.c they usually have the instruction “REFERENCE ONLY” or NOT TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THIS LIBRARY” written on them.

Research/Archival Services – The information resources in this service are non current records preserved as a result of their continuing value. The archive records includes Conference proceeding, Government publication, Student project e.t.c

RESEARCH
Serial Services – This Section is responsible for the selection, acquisition, organization of resources such as newspapers, journals, magazines e.t.c

The Society of Petroleum Engineers(SPE) is responsible for Onepetro and they use their resources and technology to operate Onepetro on behalf of their publishing partners. Access to Onepetro is available to PTI students and Staff, full-text articles and technical content can be obtained online.
